Each piece of our Redwood furniture was
proudly created as part of a Restoration Forestry project, a
sustainable practice by which annual tree growth significantly exceeds tree harvest.
Such forests logged by low-impact methods (check
out Sparky & Ike, the draft horses at work in the picture above) yield top-quality timber while
still growing mature trees. It is a wonderful practice ... and a
wonderful product!
The Choice is yours: Young Growth - Mature Growth - Old Growth
All Redwood is naturally resistant to rot and decay, however
these properties are enhanced by age. "Young Growth" is a
relative term - this furniture is manufactured from trees averaging 50
years in age. "Mature Growth" trees average 100 years
and "Old Growth" trees are at least 200 years (some are more than
1500 years old!). These old trees are NOT cut live - but rather
are harvested from fallen timber left over from when the forest was
first logged between 1890 and 1960. Despite lying there all
this time, these logs are still good as "new".
What difference will I
see?
"Old Growth" wood is darkest red, exhibits the tightest grain
pattern and the fewest knots. This wood is very rare and the
furniture it yields is some of the finest made in America today.
"Mature Growth" wood is lighter red and "Young
Growth" wood is a combination of vanilla and red and shows the most
knots. These knots do not affect integrity but do add character to
apperarance.
Before shipping, "Old Growth" and
"Mature Growth" Redwood is treated with a transparent sealant
and "Young Growth" furniture is treated with a light stain so
that it matches the color of the Mature wood. All Redwood takes
sealants and stains readily so these can be re-applied if ever
desired. Click here to learn
how to care for your new Redwood Furniture.
Quality that Lasts
Each
piece of furniture carries a manufacture's warranty (10 years for Young,
20 years for Mature and 30 years for Old) against
rot or decay in any climate. These are amongst the longest
warranties available anywhere on wooden outdoor furniture.
What Else Should I know?
All boards are custom cut and milled - that means that a board cut to be
2
by 6 really is 2” thick and 6” wide - containing 50% more wood
than a standard milled 2 by 6. Such thickness greatly enhances look, feel, sturdiness and
durability.
Only stainless steel bolts and screws are used - never nails or glue.
This furniture often ships in multiple boxes to save weight and it is
designed to assemble quickly and easily with simple tools.
