Where should Purple
Martin birdhouses be placed? Martins instinctively choose
birdhouses for safety and most experienced Purple Martin landlords
suggest locating Purple Martin Bird Houses at least 40 feet from the
nearest house or tree. This provides protection to the bird houses
from above and gives Martins room to swoop in and out of houses and
perform the aerials loops they, and we, love so well.
Purple Martin
birdhouses should also be safely and securely mounted on a mounting pole
so that the bird houses are located 12 to 15 feet above the ground and
above any dangers below. You can further protect your
Martin families by placing predator guards around the pole.
Many Purple Martin
landlords locate several Purple Martin Bird Houses. Purple Martins
are communal birds, often living in large colonies of birdhouses with
several Martin families.
