Featured in Southern Living Magazine, Troutman rockers have long been
part of southern outdoor tradition. All rocking chairs are made
from solid oak cut in Troutman's own North Carolina sawmill and are
painted and stained in a variety of acrylic finishes suitable for
covered porch use. These chairs are built like no other you will
find on the Internet - no glue is used in the construction, instead
Troutman uses Swelled Joint Construction, a technique borrowed
from time tested Shaker design.

The key to Swell Joint Construction is differential moisture
content. Posts are air dried and rungs are kiln dried.
The moisture variance causes rungs to absorb moisture
from the posts (and swell) as posts lose moisture to rungs
(and shrink). This makes a much tighter fit than if they
had been glued, a fit that actually gets tighter with time.
The tight
fit also come from interlocking joinery, by which front and
back frames are assembled separately. When the two parts are
snapped together, the boring on each frame notches making it
near impossible to be pulled apart. All of our standard
Troutman rockers ship assembled and ship two to a box. |

Troutman rockers are proudly hand made by American craftsmen in North
Carolina, the furniture capital of the world, and have been so since
1924. Shop-NC has been online offering top quality outdoor
