The Mourning Dove is very common to rural areas in all parts of the
United States. Its habitat is open fields, parks, and lawns and its
numbers have increased with the practice of cutting the forest. In
some states it is considered a game bird and hunted while others protect it
with songbird status.
Mourning Doves are resident in southeastern California, Arizona, New
Mexico, and southern parts of Texas and the tropics.
